Struggling with Inner Demons: 5 Ways to Cope with Depression

Shahid Raza725 04-Feb-2020

Ryan woke up this morning with a heavy dread in his heart. He did his daily chores, made a strong cup of coffee, waited as the ping of the elevator sounded and entered the tiny congested space. As the doors closed, he felt his heart was probably going to stop. As the elevator moved down, he thought he might pass, as if the world is falling on him.

The door opened but he didn't come out, instead, a stranger found him lying unconsciously.

Emma is a beautiful girl, strong-headed and an athlete. She has been a runner since her junior year and has won medals whenever the opportunity arises, but yet before the final round she backed out. She stopped attending the routine run and was confined to the limits of her bed and books.

What went wrong in both cases? It may not seem clear, but depression can make you do things out of the blue. Ryan had a different reaction than Emma. Why? Depression is different for everyone.

“The Deeper I Think, The Deeper I Seem to Sink”

When a person suffers from depression, each one of them has a "tell" certain giveaway points that can hint towards some nuisance that may be about to occur. It so may happen Ryan had stress and was living alone, hence the reason he was going into depression, while Emma suffered from it due to high competition and too afraid to give up from the fear she will let down her parents.

Everything is challenging and not everyone can deal with it in the same way. If you do realize you have depression that is a positive start, but to come out of this trap you need to focus on these simple rules to have a sunny day;

1: Never break ties with your family

It’s really easy to hide away behind a curtain when you feel so alone even if you stand in the middle of the crowd. Therefore, why not try harder and say things out loud you have been meaning to say to your friends and family?

It’s really easy to isolate yourself; kill whatever the social circle you might have will drive you nuts in the long run, so avoid it. It may not be easy at first, true, but you can also join community groups who are struggling with a similar problem. Talk to them, to your close friends, or family, someone you can trust. It will help you to see a clearer picture and get a hang of reality.

2: Travel around the world

If you think travelling is just money wasting away, you better think again. Travel is like a healing property for mind and body both. For instance, a Muslim books for himself Umrah packages, which is enough to accommodate him through the holy journey so that he can cleanse his soul and his body from the sins he committed. For some going on the pilgrimage is the perfect answer. For some spending, a day at the beach in the Maldives may do the trick. To each its own.

Travel around, learn and observe things around you. Watch people go by or have a mojito and drink it up. A journey is bound to make you fresh, gives you enough time to heal on your own. Travelling is the best therapy one can ever need.

3: Detox your depression

Wait for what? How can you possibly detox it out of your system? For a fact, let’s just consider depression as a toxin residing in your body. It’s not necessary to learn the reason behind it but focus on the solution, how to get rid of it.

Exercising is the best regime you can opt to have a healthy mind and body. Besides travelling, exercise can help you to focus on a certain set goal. Did you know that exercise has a positive psychological effect on the human brain? It releases endorphins which is a key ingredient to help improve your mood.

Well, if you never thought of it before, it’s never too late to try this option.

4: Listen to music

When you watch a movie, a certain scene engraves in your mind because of the soundtrack playing in the background and your life may feel like that sometimes? Guess what? Music is just the answer you need.

Oh yes! One of my favorite things to do is listening to great music. Rock, indie, pop, blues or jazz, have your pick and listen to what seems to attract you. Sing along (no matter how much of a bathroom singer you are) and shake your grooves to the beats.

It has been studied effectively, music enlightens your dampened mood. Convince your brain that depression is just a phase, not your entire life! It's just a moment, and it will pass. Music will help you to find your happy place and may inspire or the least will distract you from losing yourself again.

5: Miracle and depression

Do you belong to a community following a certain religion or faith? It's not a surprise that having faith can also help to reduce depression. When a pilgrim eagerly web surfs for a cheap Umrah packages, he is looking away to free himself from the depressing routine and spend some peace of mind amid holy land.

The way people find peace and satisfaction in a good piece of chocolate in such an emotional state, focusing on your faith can have an equally satisfying effect on you.

Who knows, a miracle may happen and one day you wake up with all the positive vibes you missed?

“Even the Darkest Night Will End and the Sun Will Rise”

Depression is just a state of mind that can be overcome if you give yourself time and the energy required to get rid of it. Nothing is permanent and that's the beauty of every phase of life. Learn and move on, and enter the next phase like a phoenix rising from the ashes because you are worth it.
